Title: "Introduction to Basics of Optical Microscopy"

Learn the basics of light microscopy in this ZEISS interactive webinar. The webinar will cover the basic optical principles of light microscopy, including how to optimise objective selection for your sample and how that may impact on the contrast techniques available to use. In addition the webinar will also introduce the underlying principles of fluorescence microscopy.

Key learning points of the webinar

  • Know your objectives and what they do
  • Choose the most suitable contrast method for your sample
  • Your coverslip and mounting media selection matters

Who should attend

  • Life science researchers
  • Life science students
  • Routine laboratory microscopist

Dr. Kyall Pocock and Dr. Shannon Das

Kyall Pocock | ZEISS

Kyall has a background in Pharmaceutical Engineering which lead him to complete a PhD in Biomaterials Engineering at the University of South Australia in 2016. His research focused primarily on organ-on-a-chip devices for drug carrier evaluations, ultimately moving his research passion towards high-end microscopy. Kyall has overseen the automated light microscopy portfolio for the past 3.5 years at ZEISS ANZ.

Shannon Das | ZEISS

Shannon obtained his PhD from The University of Sydney in 2019, where he studied the oxidative stress pathways leading to cataract formation. To further his knowledge of ocular diseases and oxidative stress, he undertook postdoctoral training at The John Curtin School of Medical Research. In 2020, he joined the ZEISS ANZ team as a product application specialist in light microscopy.
