Definitely for the challenge. We expect an awful lot from our team because our customers expect an awful lot of us. Our job at Carl Zeiss Australasia is to provide the best service, support and advice that we can, to enable our customers to provide better patient care and to perform ever more sophisticated research. That’s a job which has our folks running flat out all of the time, every day. We know that we have to work harder and perform better than any of our competitors to fulfill our customers’ high expectations. That’s the promise of the ZEISS brand.
For myself, I am absolutely passionate about working for Carl Zeiss. I love its fascinating heritage and the values and ideals for which the company stands. Of course, I’m also a huge fan of the Zeiss’ technological creativity, and I’m constantly amazed at the ideas and innovations it produces.
I also love the family atmosphere of the company. Over the past 10 years, I’ve worked with Carl Zeiss in the US and for Carl Zeiss in Germany and in Australasia. I’ve met a great many colleagues from all over the globe and I take pleasure, comfort and pride in the fact that ‘Zeissianers’ tend to stay for a long time. This creates both a sense of camaraderie and purpose within the company and keeps us focused on the future, but mindful of our past.
Locally, we’re lucky to have a group of fun, competitive and determined people who make me laugh and impress me in some way every day. We’ve evolved a great deal over the past 6 years and have largely reinvented ourselves into a much more customer oriented company than may have been in the past. I know that we still have a way to go (in fact, it’s a never ending process), but it’s great to hear from customers that we’re making progress.
To support our goal of delighting our customers, we’ve attempted to bring on the best people we can. We look for people who are motivated, organized, committed and driven. To be frank, most people think they have these characteristics, but they don’t have them to the degree that we require. We hold one another accountable to these behaviors and we push hard to be the best customer service provider and best performer in our markets.
I’m often asked what advancement opportunities our company has. I’m a good example of where one can go. I began my career with Carl Zeiss as a Product Manager in Oberkochen, Germany in May 2000. I’ve been fortunate enough to work my way up through two other positions to reach my current role. But I’m not alone.
With one exception, our entire medical management team began their Carl Zeiss careers as sales staff. One of our Product Managers recently worked for 6 months in Jena, Germany on an exchange program, and we’ve got a Marketing Assistant heading towards to Dublin, CA for a short term exchange. These development and advancement opportunities are possible because of the breadth and depth of the company, but it’s the ability and determination of our staff which makes them happen.
In summary, if you’re looking for a challenge, are dedicated to providing the best customer care and want to be pushed harder than you ever have before, drop us a line at rec ruit @zeiss .com .au

I am now entering my eighth year of working in the Logistics Department at Carl Zeiss, and my enthusiasm for the job remains as strong as ever. Why? I'd say there are two main reasons.
Firstly, although working in the Logistics department might not seem like an exciting profession at first glance, my job has evolved almost constantly, keeping it fresh and interesting. Part of this is due to my own development and being able to take on more responsibility, but also this is because of the dynamic nature of the company. In fact, the role I am currently in didn't even exist when I commenced with the company! Recently, I also had the privilege of being the Navigator for the second phase of the Carl Zeiss Cultural Journey, which was a tremendous experience. This allowed me to interact with every staff member, and understand the inner workings of the company on a much higher level than was previously possible. Which leads me nicely into my second reason why I work for Carl Zeiss.
Throughout the years I have worked closely with every other division in the company, and in doing so have formed some great relationships with my colleagues. I'm a big believer in the adage that an organisation is only as good as its people, and this is where ZEISS really shines. I can quite honestly say that I've never worked anywhere else with staff as committed, passionate and personable as we have here at ZEISS. The chance to interact with my colleagues on a daily basis is a major reason why after all these years I still look forward to walking through the front door each day, and will continue to do so for years to come.
Logistics Administrator, Surgical Ophthalmology
After 3 years I still find my position very rewarding, both financially and in terms of job satisfaction. The position on a day to day level is very busy, and in three years I have not once looked at the clock wanting the day to end. Generally, you are wishing for more in hours in the day to get a little more done. This is a great mindset to be in during your working day.
What distinguishes Carl Zeiss from others is Product Quality and Reputation. The quality of the product speaks for itself, with microscopes over 30 years old still being used. Each time you install a ZEISS microscope into a hospital there is a real excitement in getting the new piece of equipment. The surgeons may be used to using a microscope with 20 year old technology, so gaining some of the benefits of today’s technology is a very exciting experience. The docs are excited, the nurses often gain visualisation through camera systems and monitors and ultimately the new microscopes will improve the surgical outcomes for the patient.

As I always like to work in a large recognised company, I strongly believe I am privileged to be a part of the Carl Zeiss family. I admire the superior quality, innovations and professionalism of Carl Zeiss.
The opportunity to interact with different types of customers and people and deal with many different issues is challenging for me. Each day I gain communication and other skills with people on many different professional levels. Out of my speciality area I achieve the best results for the company and myself. The fast pace and challenging situations appeal to a hardworking, accurate and polite person such as myself.
All of this, plus great team support of Carl Zeiss gives me job satisfaction and the will to achieve great results for Carl Zeiss. Management recognition of our achievements is a great motivator also.
I am looking forward to putting all my strengths and efforts to achieving success both in my career goals and for Carl Zeiss in 2009.
I chose to join Carl Zeiss for three main reasons:
The company has far exceeded my expectations. I am challenged and stimulated daily. I have become more resourceful, a better communicator and increased my understanding of the ophthalmic industry both clinically and technically. I am surrounded by people who are both highly motivated and team driven.
The company provides significant support systems ensuring a platform for success, where a committed work ethic is rewarded accordingly. Carl Zeiss is a great place to work if you enjoy the challenges of understanding and implementing technology, whilst building worthwhile business relationships.

In my short time working at Carl Zeiss I was immediately impressed with its level of professionalism shown during my first day induction. All staff were made aware of my employment and were very kind and welcoming which made me feel very much part of the team from the start.
A new career can be daunting in the beginning however knowing I have a very experienced support team right behind me has been very comforting. Everyone from Receptionist to Managing Director is very approachable and helpful.
The training has been very intense and beneficial and I am looking forward to some hard work ahead with great potential rewards.
