Prof. P. Polkinghorne

Philip specialises in retinal, vitreo-retinal and cataract surgery. He has subspecialty training in both medical and surgical retina and is active in clinical and basic science research.

Outside of Auckland Eye, Philip has plenty on his plate. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland and has teaching responsibilities for both undergraduate and post graduate students. He is also visiting lecturer at the University of Otago, preparing ophthalmic registrars from Australia and New Zealand for their final fellowship examination. Philip is also heavily involved in the public sector and strongly believes that all New Zealanders should have the right to expert care and treatment. He recognises the difficulties of working in the public sector but maintains that “it is better to contribute than opt out”.

2013 Ophthalmic Imaging Calendar Competition

Thank you for the overwhelming numbers of entries for the 2013 Ophthalmic Imaging Calendar competition. There were many excellent images, which made the job of A/Prof. Philip Polkinghorne very difficult. We are pleased to announce the winning entry is from Ms Vinnci Lee of Chatswood Retina Service, New South Wales, who won for her amazing Right Peripapillary Melanoma image taken with the Carl Zeiss FF450PLUS. A well-deserved prize for Ms Lee is the NEW cinemizerOLED from ZEISS valued at $780 AUD.

Ms Lee’s image, together with the top 11 entries will be showcased in our exclusive 2013 calendar. As a thank you, each participant will receive a copy of the calendar in December.
